🏠 House Rules

No smoking indoors, on the balcony, or in common areas
No parties or events — enjoy yourselves respectfully
Quiet hours: 10 PM – 8 AM
Only registered guests may stay overnight
No food or drink in the bedrooms or living room

Separate waste into bags by type: Metal/Glass (vetro/metallo) · Paper (carta) · Plastic (plastica) · Organic (organico) · Non-Recyclable (indifferenziato)
Drop off at the Isola Ecologica, Piazza Cristoforo Colombo
Drop-off hours: 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM (summer evenings: until 7:00 PM) — subject to change
Non-recyclable (indifferenziato) collection days may vary — check the posted schedule

Tourist Doctor Cefalù — dedicated medical service for visitors
For emergencies: Ospedale di Cefalù, Via Aldo Moro — has a Pronto Soccorso (A&E)
For serious emergencies, larger facilities are in Palermo (~70 km west)

Day-to-day essentials for getting around and settling in.

💊 Pharmacy

Closest: Farmacia Cirincione on Corso Ruggero — just steps away. Ask for Esther, who speaks excellent English (and you might catch her singing around town at night!)
Sicilian pharmacists can often prescribe medications that require a doctor's prescription elsewhere — very helpful for minor ailments
Note: painkillers like ibuprofen and aspirin are available but typically in small quantities
For longer hours, especially weekends: Parafarmacia Vizzini and Farmacia Messina
Standard hours: 9 AM – 1 PM and 4 PM – 8 PM. A rotating pharmacy covers after-hours (schedule posted on pharmacy doors)

🛒 Food & Groceries

Bread: Panificio Ventimiglia is just 50 meters up the hill — excellent bread, but go before noon
Meat: Macellaio Glorioso Carni is right at the top of Via Vanni on the street — outstanding local butcher
Fruit & veg: A fruttivendolo (ortofrutta) is just around the corner at the bottom of the hill
Deli staples: Alimentari at 66 Corso Ruggero for cheese, cold cuts, and pantry basics
Full supermarket: Decò is a short walk and also delivers via their app

🏧 ATMs

Several ATMs (Bancomat) on and near Corso Ruggero
Banca Intesa Sanpaolo and Unicredit branches in the centro
Most bars, restaurants, and shops in town accept cards, but smaller vendors may prefer cash

🚌 Getting Around

Train: Cefalù station connects to Palermo (~1 hr) and Messina. Buy tickets at the station or on Trenitalia app
Bus to Palermo: Autolinee Tarantola runs coaches from Piazza Colombo (faster than the train)
Taxi: Ask Stella or your hosts for a local taxi number
On foot: The centro storico is entirely walkable

🏖️ The Beach

The beach is just a 3-minute walk from the apartment
We love the beach right through Porta Pescara, by the Molo — head that way first
Free public beach along the Lungomare
Lido areas (sunbeds & umbrellas for rent) are nearby — arrive early in peak season

✈️ Getting to Palermo Airport

Palermo Falcone Borsellino (PMO) — approx. 70 km west
By car: ~1 hour via A19/E90 motorway
By train: Cefalù → Palermo Centrale (~55 min), then Trinacria Express airport shuttle (~45 min)
Pre-book a private transfer for convenience — ask Stella for a trusted driver

🌡️ Weather & What to Bring

Summer (June–Sept): hot and dry, 28–35°C (82–95°F). Pack sunscreen and light clothing
The apartment has A/C in all rooms
Occasional afternoon thunderstorms in late summer — short and refreshing
May and October are beautiful shoulder season months — cooler, fewer crowds

🍷 Dining & Daily Rhythm

Breakfast: A small espresso standing at a bar, or a coffee and cornetto in the Duomo square or looking out over the water
Lunch: 1 PM – 3 PM
Aperitivo: 6:30–8:30 PM — join the locals for an Aperol Spritz or Negroni before dinner
Dinner: 8:30–10:30 PM
Passeggiata: After dinner, Italians take a leisurely walk through town to socialize — join in

🔌 Appliances & Utilities

Italian plug type: Type F (Schuko) — bring a universal adapter if needed
Voltage: 230V / 50Hz. Do not plug in American appliances (hair dryers, curling irons, etc.) unless they explicitly support 100–240V input — 110V-only devices will be destroyed and may cause a fire
Washing: Use the washing machine as normal. Note that dryers are not common in Italy — hang laundry to dry from the lines outside the window
